Peridot the birthstone for August. It’s deep green with flecks of gold. It is beautiful and rare. According to traditional lore is said to stimulate the liver and metabolism. It is deemed to emit a spiritual energy channelling love and abundance, and is associated with strength and balance.


From a scientific point of view, the light waves that we see as green create a penetrating colour, and this light wave has uniform absorption and penetration in the leaves of plants. Because of this it may be the light that causes the most CO2 to be locked away, so a truly “green” or environmentally friendly colour!
Culturally, the colour green stands for growth and renewal. It is a positive colour, the start of spring, the colour of food for much of the animal kingdom. Green fields signal prosperity and abundance.


According to common colour psychology, if you love green you are probably practical, balanced and care for others with a loving disposition. You enjoy learning and growth.


Colour therapists cite green as being nurturing and regenerative as a colour to use in our surroundings and say that it can help relieve feelings of homesickness.
Green is a colour with many intriguing aspects to it, and there are many, many shades of green, scaling from blue greens to yellow greens, light greens to dark greens and bright greens to soft creamy greens.
